Unbanned/Unbound

Unbanned/Unbound is an ongoing project created in collaboration with Detroit Public Libraries. Begun in 2023 as a part of my residency with ProjectArt Detroit, I teamed up with library workers in the City of Detroit to create their portraits and capture their opinions on why the spaces they work are important to our society.

Libraries serve as cornerstones of their communities, as they bring people together, promote literacy, and provide a safe and welcoming space. However, funding for these incredibly important spaces has been drastically cut across the nation, and many libraries are faced with scrutiny, censure, and even closure.

Through this project, I hope to honor these people who dedicate their lives to sharing information and educational recourse, and to raise awareness about these essential spaces in our communities.
